Consols Pond, St Ives, Cornwall

For around ninety years the families of St Ives have enjoyed the tradition of sailing model boats at Consols Pond on Good Friday.

The tradition began in the early 1900s, when fisherman and children sailed model boats in the town's harbour. It is thought to be a gesture to the old seafaring communities which used to launch miniature boats in the hope of ensuring safe passage for mariners.

Fund Raising Event

Our talk and slide show 'Colourful St Ives in the 1950s' presented by Brian Stevens - raised £165 so that will help to swell the coffers. The slides which had been donated to the St Ives Museum were wonderful and showed the St Ives of my childhood. I wasn't actually born in the 1950s you understand, but throughout the years that I was growing up that was pretty much the way it looked.

So a very big 'Thank You' to Brian from myself and the Consols Pond Association Committee, your help and support is much appreciated.

More fund raising events to come in the not to distant future.
